Joe Public whip Ma Pau, Connection held by Oilmen

Joe Public continued their ups and downs this season, this time on an up, whipping ninth positioned Ma Pau SC 4-0 at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium on Tuesday night.

Joe Public rebounded from their 2-0 defeat in a rescheduled match against North East Stars over the weekend and looked more like the team that trashed St Ann’s Rangers 6-0 last Thursday in another rescheduled clash.

Jamaican forward Roen Nelson registered a hattrick netting in the 37th, 51st and 78th minutes while midfielder Terrance Mc Allister notched the Lions’ fourth item one minute from time.

Joe Public remain 5th on the standings, now one point less than both Caledonia AIA and North East Stars and 18 points off leaders CLICO San Juan Jabloteh and fifteen behind second positioned W Connection.

W Connection failed to lock down leaders Jabloteh following a suprising 1-1 draw against United Petrotrin.

Brazilian Jose Luis Seabra gave Connection a ninth minute lead but Kevon Woodley’s 60th minute strike was good enough to give the Oilmen a valuable point in their hunt for a Big Six spot.

The Oilmen dropped one spot into seventh, with 33 points, one point less than sixth positioned St Ann’s Rangers and will need wins in their next two matches if any chance of a Lucozade Sport Big Six spot.

While at the Dwight Yorke Stadium home side Tobago United was edged out 3-2 by visiting North East Stars.

Tichard Joseph opened the scoring in the 18th minute for the home side but Akeil Guevara, double goalscorer against Joe Public over the weekend, equalized in the 28th minute taking it 1-1 at the break.

The see-saw continued when Kelvin Hernandez restored Tobago’s lead in the 63rd minute and Marc Leslie equalising in the 87th minute before the Grande Stars’ Sean Cooper grabbed the winner in injury time.

North East Stars are now with 38 points tied with Caledonia AIA but below on goals difference and a safe zone for the next Round of competition. As for the Tobagonians, a bottom of the table finish is inevitable with just 13 points after 25 matches.
