Underwood, Stars part ways
DIRECTV North East Stars have begun what is considered a “shake up”, parting ways with American coach Rod Underwood in keeping with the club’s vision of being a title contender.
The spilt came following back to back losses against Defence Force(4-3) and Bmobile Joe Public(3-2) after holding advantages.
The most recent was giving up 3-2 against Joe Public last Friday after enjoying a 2-0 cushion at the half.
“Our spilt was through mutual consent,” said Stars’ CEO Brent Sancho.
“We both realized that parting ways was in the best interest in the club moving forward.”
Assistant coach Sherland David has been awarded the role of interim coach of the sixth positioned Stars with 10 points next to their name.
The Sangre Grande outfit will enjoy a bye this weekend in Round One Match Day Ten as they continue assessments.
Sancho continued, “Club President Mr. Darryl Mahabir and I have already initiated discussions with regards to a new coach. We want a coach that would understand the vision of North East Stars and keep within that vision whether local or foreign.
“We have already begun receiving résumés for the position because people are understanding that North East Stars is a club on the up.”
Sancho preferred not to make public possible candidates but assured that the club will make the best decision.
He also revealed that there would also be a shake up in its player roster over the next couple weeks.
“We are always on the lookout for new players and have been receiving interests. We would definitely shake things up a bit as we continue assessments in taking the club forward,” he ended.
