Football fraternity pour in tributes for murdered referee

Murdered Trinidad and Tobago Football Referee’s Association assistant referee Kyle Carabon.

“To say Kyle (Carabon) was an up and coming referee would be putting it mildly,” said Wayne Caesar, head of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) Referee’s Department.“He was destined to be a FIFA official because at this stage he was proficient in all physical and technical aspects of the tough training regime.”

Carabon, 25, a promising assistant referee with only the sky his limit, became a statistic on Monday in Tableland as the country’s murder rate continue to spiral out of control.

The TTFA, Pro League and the Trinidad and Tobago Football Referees Association all expressedcondolences to the relatives and friends Carabon who lost his life under tragic and violent circumstances.

Carabon began refereeing under five years ago but in recent time had risen to the “elite group” which officiates at Trinidad and Tobago top-flight games in the Pro League.

TTFA president David John-Williams lamented the loss of another citizen to unwarranted violence and in particular a servant of football in referee Carabon.

The TTFA boss said: “On behalf of the entire football family, we pledge our support to the family and friends of our colleague, including those in the referee’s fraternity.”

Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene said the League is saddened by the untimely death of young referee Carabon. “May God give them comfort in their time of bereavement?”

The Referee’s Association also issued a press release on Tuesday which read: “The President, Executive Committee, General Council and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Referees Association are shocked and deeply saddened by the violent and tragic death of young member, Carabon.

The TTFRA release continued: “Kyle has been a dedicated match official who has been servicing football at the highest level in Trinidad and Tobago for the last four years. We have lost a brother who was so full of promise that it is a loss to the community as a whole that such a positive young person has been taken.

We express our condolences to his immediate family whose loss is even far greater than ours since his uncle was taken in the same incident.

On behalf of the chairman, board of directors, chief executive officer, staff clubs and players, the Pro League wishes to extend condolences to Kyle Carabon’s immediate familyas well as the refereeing fraternity.
