Connection out Stars

Connection out StarsA goal each by Kemuel Rivers and Hughton Hector and a hard-fought performance by W Connection gave the Stuart Charles Fevrier coached side a 2-0 win over DIRECTV North East Stars in Friday’s second Digicel Pro Bowl quarterfinal clash at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Rivers broke the deadlock seconds inside injury time of the first period with a powerful strike beating goalkeeper Andrew Durant after Andrei Pacheco was denied a go at goal.

And Hector, who dominated the match, made it 2-0 in the 66th minute, moments after spilling wide, powerful swinging effort leaving Durant beaten with pace and directing from the right sending the visiting supporters into a loud outburst.

The win puts Connection in the semi-final round next Friday against the quarterfinal winner between Defence Force and San Juan Jabloteh(which will be played on Tuesday at the Marvin Lee Stadium).

Hector was denied an opening item three minutes into the match when his shot on goal was miraculously cleared off the line acrobatically by defender Kelvin Smith.

While Stars only real shot of the first period came from an unlikely source in defender Keryn Navarro in the 22nd minute from distance which was easily wrapped by Jan Michael Williams.

Connection took to the second period with its advantage and could have been with another goal before Hector’s item in the 66th minute.

Howeever Andrei Pacheco was failed by a poor first touch in the six yard area with only goalkeeper Durant to beat in the 48th minute after being picked out perfectly by Christian Viveros’ cross from the right.

In the earlier quarterfinal clash defending champs Joe Public made their opportunities count to defeat Police FC 3-0. Joe Public will meet the winner between Ma Pau SC and Caledonia AIA in the semi-final round.
