Joe Public blank PoliceDefending Digicel Pro Bowl champs Bmobile Joe Public overcame quarterfinal opponents Police FC with a 3-0 score on Friday night at the Marvin Lee Stadium to advance into the semi-final round.

Following a goalless first half, Joe Public made no mistakes on their chances with goals by Andre Toussaint, Jevon Morris and Dorian Robinson to put an end to the Lawmen 2010-2011 season.

However it ended bitter-sweet for the Lions when defender Aubrey David picked up his second yellow card of the game seconds before the final whistle for a foul on Akiba Peters midway down the field and eventually the red card by referee Lee Davis.

Head coach Rajesh Latchoo will now be without the talented defender in the semi-final round next Friday against (the winner between Ma Pau SC and Caledonia AIA to be played on Tuesday 22 March at the Marvin Lee Stadium).

Three minutes into the quarterfinal match, Joe Public latest signing Dorion Robinson squandered a one on one chance with goalkeeper Emmanuel Nurse when he disappointingly directed Marvin Manswell’s low cross into the Police goalie from inside the six yard area.

Police had a couple tame efforts wide in the opening moments with the closest coming from midfielder Todd Ryan in the 30th minute, a couple feet away from the upright.

The Lawmen then survived a scare in the 34th minute when Toussaint chested Micah Lewis cross and unleashed a powerful volley overbar from above the area. Toussaint had another go at goal in the 42nd minute from similar position firing wide of the upright.

Police captain Noel Williams warned Joe Public that they are formidable opponents when in the 39th minute he controlled a long pass forward before eluding his marker Aubrey David and unleashing a left-footed shot into goalkeeper Marvin Phillip.

However nine minutes into the second period Toussaint made no mistake hitting a low shot between the legs of goalkeeper Nurse for the 1-0 advantage after collecting a pass inside the area with the defence left beaten.

One minute later Police’s Keron Clarke blasted a low shot across the face of goal and in the 57th Jason Boodram spilled overbar after being teed-up inside the area.

Police didn’t surrender creating a number of openings but saw misses by Williams and Jason Boodram being denied by goalkeeper Phillip in the 72nd minute.

Boodram failed again in the 75th minute striking his effort from the right into goalkeeper Phillip who made an easy block-out giving a corner.

The Lawmen where made to pay for their failed efforts when in the 76th minute Jevon Morris comforted Joe Public 2-0 striking past Nurse from Tinto’s cross from the right and in the 80th minute it was 3-0 when Robinson met Micah Lewis’s pass at the far post to slot past the hapless Police goalie.

Even Joe Public defender Aubrey David tested Nurse with a low shot from distance five minutes from time. Nurse followed up with blockouts against Lewis and substitute Neil Mitchell in injury time however his side finished soured losers and had themselves to blame after failing to find the back of the net on a number of occasions.
