Defence Force wants Digicel Pro Bowl, Team of the Year award

Defence Force wants Digicel Pro Bowl, Team of the Year awardCaribbean Football Union Club Champions Cup challenger and 2010-2011 Digicel Pro League Champions Defence Force, wants to wrap up the domestic season with the Digicel Pro Bowl.

Head Coach Ross Russell said his team is focused on the Pro Bowl and the Team of the Year award.

“In other knockouts this season we had to concentrate on the League and endure the breaks, but there isn’t much that we have to concentrate on at this point,” he said during the tournament Launch last Thursday. “So we will be focused on (capturing) the last knockout, the Digicel Pro Bowl which we have never won and look to Team of the Year.”

The Soldiers kick off this season’s Pro Bowl against San Juan Jabloteh from 8pm on Tuesday at the Marvin Lee Stadium in the quarterfinal round and are coming off Saturday’s 3-0 CFU second leg win over Dandy Town Hornets of Bermuda which secured their place in the Second Round with a 4-1 aggregate win.

The Ross Russell coached team moves on to face Guyana’s Milerock in the Second Round scheduled for the weeks of April 12–14 and April 22–24.

Following the Launch of the Pro Bowl Russell said that playing on Saturday won’t affect his team ahead of Tuesday’s quarterfinal clash.

“I don’t think it would affect us much, because our team has a lot of depth since the start of the season and I intend to use all my players. They are all firing at the moment. So after we come away with a victory on Saturday, we will be ready for Tuesday’s match.

He welcomes the Jabloteh clash, saying that it’s just another challenge.

“Ma Pau and North East Stars have been our toughest opponents in the League and we have avoided them going into the quarterfinal round draw and that’s good,” he said.

“Meantime Jabloteh is always a team that we always have a rivalry against, and we will take any team in the Pro League right now because we are about winning. It’s just another challenge for us.

Tuesday’s quarterfinal fixture will from 6pm at the Macoya venue as Ma Pau SC take on Caledonia AIA. Caledonia, also participating in the CFU Club Champions Cup, is fresh from Saturday’s 5-0 hammering of St. Kitts/Nevis club Newtown United which sent the Morvant/Laventille club into the Second Round with a 6-0 aggregate win to meet Tempete of Haiti.
