Jabloteh in Toyota semis against Ma Pau, North East against Lions

Jabloteh in Toyota semis against Ma Pau, North East against LionsMisses by W Connection’s Romauld Aguillera and Hughton Hector on kicks from the penalty spot on Tuesday night at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium saw San Juan Jabloteh advance into the semi-final round of the 2010-2011 Toyota Classic with a 5-4 penalty win after a 2-2 draw.

And at the Marvin Lee Stadium, in another quarterfinal clash, DIRECTV North East Stars defeated Defence Force 2-1 with Jamaican forward Sean Fraser putting the Sangre Grande club ahead in the 76th minute and then cushioned by a Keston Williams own goal in the 81st minute.

Defender Michael Edwards pulled back a goal for the Soldiers in the 88th minute, however it wasn’t enough to avoid exit.

The Stars will meet Joe Public Super League outfit in the first semi-final round clash on Friday 18 February at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Joe Public, coached by Rajesh Latchoo, who is also the head coach of the Joe Public Pro League club, registered a 2-1 win over Police FC in the first quarterfinal clash at the Marvin Lee Stadium with goals by Devon King and Julien Landeau.

As for Jabloteh, the San Juan club will meet bitter rivals Ma Pau SC in the second semi-final clash at the Malabar venue.

Ma Pau, just as Jabloteh, earned their semi-final spot on kicks from the penalty spot 5-4 but following a goalless draw against Caledonia AIA.

Jabloteh thought they secured their semi-final spot in regulation time with goals by Karlon Murray and substitute Johan Peltier, however that thought was erased by an injury-time double by Connection’s Hector forcing the encounter to be decided by kicks from the spot.

Hector was the liveliest of the Connection players from the start and in the 21st minute he forced a fingertip save by Cleon John from distance.

However in the 26th minute Murray headed Jabloteh in front jumping high at the far post to meet what seemed to be a harmless cross and put it over goalkeeper Murilo Da Costa for a 1-0 advantage.

Connection's Clyde Leon then missed the target when he launched Kemuel Rivers' cross from the left well overbar in the 32nd minute.

End to end action continued and six minutes later the Connection Brazilian goalie had to pull off a fine save denying Jason Marcano who attempted to find the far post after a strong run.

Jabloteh was later reduced to ten-men on the hour mark when goalscorer Murray picked up his second yellow for a foul on Matthew Bartholomew at the edge of the area.

In the 64th minute Jabloteh were on the defence when Hector raced down the right and whipped in a cross towards the far post to find Pacheco, however the finishing touch saw the ball into the side netting to goalkeeper John's delight.

Hector was at it again moments later when he provided another dangerous cross, however Leon guided his attempt overbar—as the T&T international miserable night continued.

Jabloteh then cushioned themselves in five minutes from time when Marcano made one of his ‘never give up’ runs down the right weaving and muscling his way past three Connection players before finding Peltier inside the area, and the substitute made no mistake beating goalkeeper Da Costa for a 2-0 score.

But in injury time, Hector blasted a freekick past goalkeeper John to reduce the deficit 2-1 and then leveled the scores 2-2 moments later.

John made a superb blockout against Bartholomew at point blank however the free ball fell to a handful of Connection players allowing Hector a knock in.

Hector was the hero of his side but not on kicks from the penalty spot when  in the sixth kick he placed his shot off target allowing Jabloteh to celebrate the 5-4 win.
