Ince saves Ma Pau for a Toyota semifinal spot, Police knocked out

Ince saves Ma Pau for a Toyota semifinal spot, Police knocked outFormer England based goalkeeper Clayton Ince was in flying form on Tuesday night when he pulled off saves on kicks from the penalty spot to help Ma Pau SC advance into the semi-final round of the 2010-2011 Toyota Classic.

The Ma Pau assistant coach/goalkeeper made saves against Caledonia AIA’s Conrod Smith, Nuru Abdullah Muhammed and Stephan David to earn his side a 5-4 kicks from the penalty spot victory following a goalless draw in the first of a quarterfinal double header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

The former Walsall goalie’s voice was heard throughout the goalless quarterfinal clash as he marshaled the Woodbrook based Pro League from between the uprights before going on to save his side on kicks from the spot after seven kicks and book a place in the semi-final against San Juan Jabloteh on Friday 18 February at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Simultaneously at the Marvin Lee Stadium, in the first clash of another quarterfinal double header, Joe Public Super League advanced into the semi-final round (against DIRECTV North East Stars) after defeating Police FC 2-1.

Former Jabloteh youth player Julien Landeau scored the winner in the 53rd minute for the Rajesh Latchoo(who is also the head coach for the Joe Public Pro League club which suffered a 1-0 defeat in the Round of 16) coached Super League outfit.

Joe Public opened the scoring through Devon King in the 16th minute however the scores were leveled before the break with Police midfielder Kaaron Foster finding the back of the net in the 44th minute.

In the Ma Pau, Caledonia clash there were little goalmouth action with midfielder Densill Theobald’s red card sending off proving the highlight of regulation time.

The Morvant/Laventille club, Caledonia, was reduced to ten-men in the 32nd minute when referee Neil Brizan awarded Thoebald the direct red for what the match official adjudged to be a stamp on opposing midfielder Kerry Noray following a challenge in the middle.

Seconds into the second period Caledonia's Akim Armstrong struck the side netting and on the hour mark Ma Pau also failed to hit the target.

Seven minutes from time Caledonia's Jamaican goalkeeper Kevin Graham had to pull off a spectacular save to deny Dwane James before his defence cleared the loose ball in another rare attempt on goal.

In other quarterfinal results North East Stars defeated Defence Force 2-1 at the Marvin Lee Stadium with Jamaican forward Sean Fraser putting the Sangre Grande club ahead in the 76th minute and then cushioned by a Keston Williams own goal in the 81st minute. Defender Michael Edwards pulled back a goal for the Soldiers in the 88th minute, however it wasn’t enough to avoid exit.

And in the second clash at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, 10-men San Juan Jabloteh were made to work for a 5-4 kicks from the penalty spot victory over rivals W Connection after a 2-2 draw.

Midfielder Hughton Hector pulled back two goals for Connection in injury time to level the scores after Jabloteh’s Karlon Murray(26th minute) and Johan Peltier(85th minute) had the San Juan club ahead 2-0 at the end of normal time.

However Hector failed to keep his side alive in the sixth kick when he missed the entire target to hand Jabloteh a 5-4 victory and a place in the semi-final against Ma Pau.
