Joe Public meets Joe Public again in Toyota Classic

Joe Public meets Joe Public again in Toyota ClassicDefending champs Bmobile Joe Public and it’s Super League counterpart, Joe Public are drawn to face each other in the 2010-2011 Toyota Classic Round of 16 Group C.

This was revealed on Tuesday morning during the official launch of the knockout competition in the Toyota Box of the Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain.

It’s the second consecutive Classic where Joe Public’s Pro League club and Super League outfits drew each other in the Round of 16.

Despite comfortably defeating the Super League outfit in 2009, new Pro League Joe Public head coach Rajesh Latchoo expects a competitive clash.

“We are expecting what we expect from any other team being a knockout that it is,” said the 26 yearold Latchoo.

Latchoo, now equipped with a very young squad minus the experience of Kerry Baptiste(on trial in the United States), Yu Hoshide, Trent Noel, Makan Hislop, Nigel Daniel and goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel all out of contract, has confidence in his bunch.

“We will come out and give our best,” he continued. “Our guys are excited because they now have the opportunity to display their talent. For the entire season it was like…we want to play, we want to play and now they have that opportunity.

The Round of 16 kicks off on Friday 11 February and continues on Saturday 12 with the quarterfinal round on Tuesday 15 February followed by the semi-final round on Friday 18 February and the Final on Friday 25 February.

At stake is the Toyota Classic trophy and winners’ prize-money of $50,000.00 and $20,000.00 for the runners-up.

In another surprise match-up 2010-2011 Digicel Pro League Champions Defence Force and its Super League counterpart Defence Force were drawn to face eachother in Group D.

Head Coach of the Defence Force Pro League outfit Ross Russell promises a treat against the side he once coached.

“We are taking them(Defence Force Super League) as a Jabloteh or W Connection,” said the League Championship winning coach.

“We are eager to go at it.

“We want to get out there and excite the crowd just as we have done all season. And this clash will be a treat.”

The Toyota Classic format remains the same this season with ten(10) Pro League clubs and the top six(6) Super League clubs after their final round.

Following the draw, Ma Pau SC vs FC SouthEnd(Group B) and St. Ann’s Rangers vs Police FC(Group D) are the only two Pro League clashes in the Round of 16.

In other clashes Caledonia AIA will take on Super League club Stokely Vale and three-time Toyota Classic finalists San Juan Jabloteh against Super League club 1976 FC Phoenix(Group A), W Connection against Super League club WASA(Group B) and DIRECTV North East Stars against Super League Champions T&TEC(Group C).
